Lamborghini, the Italian supercar manufacturer is making its first step into the world non-fungible tokens (NFTs). The latest project, named the Space Key, is a work that was created in collaboration with a unknown artist. The NFT is a unique piece of digital art that is accessable via a QR code. The project is a limited edition and will be auctioned off over the coming weeks.
The Space Key is made from carbon fiber composite material that Lamborghini sent to the International Space Station in 2019 as part of an experiment. Once it returned to earth carbon fiber was fashioned into this unique artwork. The physical element includes an NFT serial number that is linked to the digital art work via a QR code on the rear.
NFTs, for those not familiar they are unique identifiers that are recorded on a distributed ledger of the blockchain and linked to a digital asset such as a picture or video, song, or any other kind of record. This allows owners to verify the authenticity, scarcity, and tracking of their tokens across the internet.
Working with NFT PRO which is a white-label NFT solution for companies, Lamborghini is taking this unique approach to art to a new level. In the coming weeks, Lamborghini will share details about the exciting project. This includes the names of the artists who are unknown and a schedule for auction.
The physical component of Space Key
Following multiple social media posts teasing something related to space, Italian supercar maker Lamborghini has entered the world of non-fungible tokens (NFT) with a unique project called Space Key. The project was created in collaboration with an unknown artist, the NFT is a collector's piece that will be auctioned off in a few weeks. The NFT is a piece made of carbon fiber composite material that was sent to the International Space Station (ISS) in 2019 as part an experiment. The carbon fiber has been 3D printed to form the basis of each Space Key, which is linked with an exclusive, purely digital artwork via the QR code printed on the back of the key. Only five Space Keys have been produced.

NFTs are unique identifications that are recorded in distributed ledgers such as the Blockchain and linked to digital assets such as images. They're all the rage for those with more money than sanity, so it was only a matter of time until an automaker decided to capitalize on the trend.
Space Key consists of five units. They were constructed by using a piece of carbon fiber composite that was shipped to the ISS in the year 2019. Each NFT is linked to an exclusive digital artwork created by the same artist via an QR code that is located on the backside of the carbon fiber element. More details will be released in the coming days and weeks including the name of the artist who created the digital art work and how to buy one of the five Space Keys.
The digital artwork
After weeks of social media posts hinting at it, the luxury automobile maker Lamborghini finally announced its first project for tokens that are non-fungible (NFT). www.thekeylab.co.uk is dubbed the Space Key, it consists of five physical items that unlock an exclusive digital art work NFT by an artist yet to be identified. The "collectors' piece" was developed in collaboration with NFTPRO(tm) and is limited to just five units. It will be auctioned off soon.
At the heart of each Space Key is a block of advanced carbon fire composite material, which was sent to the International Space Station in 2019 as part of a research project. After returning to Earth the space key was engraved with a QR code, which connects it to the digital element of the Space Key.
Each of the five Space Keys features a different moment that occurs at different times as the Lamborghini Ultimae takes off towards the stars. More than 600 million pixels make up each of the five images, which were shot by photographer Fabian Oefner.
Oefner utilized an inflatable camera equipped with a lens to capture individual images, which were later put together into the final image. The result is an image that is out of this world. It captures the beauty of Earth and the futuristic, hyperrealistic look of a car rising away from the Earth. The Space Keys are going to be auctioned off in the near future, but there isn't a specific date or location as of yet.
